ÉireOcean-TWIN: AI-Enhanced 4D Digital Twin of Ireland’s Marine and Coastal Systems

About the Project

ÉireOcean-TWIN aims to develop Ireland’s first AI-enhanced Digital Twin of marine and coastal systems, creating a new capability for ocean data analytics, forecasting and decision support.

The project will integrate major national and European marine datasets, including INFOMAR seabed mapping, Copernicus Marine forecasts, tide-gauge and buoy observations, into a high-resolution four-dimensional digital environment. Advanced artificial intelligence and machine-learning methods will be used to improve the prediction of critical ocean events, particularly coastal flooding and marine heatwaves.

The Digital Twin will allow users to explore “what-if” scenarios involving sea-level rise, marine heatwaves, sediment mobility and coastal hazards. It will support policymakers, coastal managers and industry in marine spatial planning, climate adaptation and evidence-based decision-making.

Advanta Blue Solutions’ Role

Advanta Blue Solutions is a project partner and leads the work on Data Integration and High-Performance Computing for Coastal and Seabed Forecasting.

This work will combine tide-gauge and buoy observations, Copernicus Marine forecasts, high-resolution hydrodynamic and wave models and repeat INFOMAR bathymetric surveys into an integrated data pipeline. High-performance computing and ensemble simulations will then be used to improve forecasts of coastal flooding, erosion hotspots and seabed change and to assess their potential integration into future Irish early-warning and climate-service systems.
